The La Soufriere Volcano on the island of St. Vincent transitioned from a diffusive to an explosive eruption on April 9, 2021, less than 24 hours after an evacuation order was mandated by the country's prime minister to residents within the red zone near the volcano. This led to the evacuation of over 16,000 people from the zone that faced immediate danger in the north of the island. Since then, the lives of these families and the rest of the 100,000 plus people on the main island have been transformed into uncertainty with heavy ashfall, growing water shortage and intermittent explosions from the volcano. Many families remain on the island in shelters and host homes and can remain there for as long as 6 months.
